Anna Sinfield- Review JUNE2008

Anna Sinfield

Anna Sinfield is a tea-loving-song-writing-guitar-and-ukulele-playing genius. Simple.
I first came across her at a gig at the Hertford Marquee many moons ago, and I havn‘t stopped listening to her since. I think that Anna’s songs are really catchy and have a sound that is so fresh and so new to the current music scene that its going to be easy to get her name out there because, lets face it- lately the music scene has become a bit samey and a bit monotone. Anna’s ability as a musician will give it the kick up the arse that it’s crying out for!

Hailing from Hertfordshire, Anna Sinfield is a sixteen year old singer-songwriter. Anna has been actively involved in music since the age of 9 when she sang in a covers band. She says “This built my vocal ability amazingly, its ridiculously hard singing over a big crowd at the age of 9, so you learn fast”. This shows in her music and from earlier recordings of her songs, that used to be available on her MySpace, you can really hear the difference and how far she’s come over the last year or so.

Anna has supported artists like Sam Isaac and Wallis Bird, so you can trust me when I say that she knows what she’s doing. She is currently booking gigs for her string of summer shows. Anna is booked to play venues such as The Box Tree in Cambridge and The Cavendish Arms in London over the summer months.

All of her songs have a strong sense of reality to them, all appealing to different kinds of people from different walks of life. I think that it might be representational of her being the only musical personality in her family, she describes herself as “an oddity in the genetic line”.

My favourite song of hers at the moment, although it regularly changes, is the song titled ‘Broken Hearted Song’. I don’t really know why I like it, I just think that she performs it amazingly. After hearing it on a local radio station she performed on I’ve been hooked to it. I was humming it all the way through my maths exam!
Another personal favourite of mine would have to be ‘Lullaby’. This song was written about her little sister and its really easy to relate to if you have a younger sibling that you’re quite close to. I know I seem to say this about every artist I review or write about but the song is so simple and so beautiful.

My advice to Anna would be to keep going, keep working hard, keep writing and you’ll get there in the end! One day she’ll be sat in her recording studio with a solid gold mug of tea and some chocolate covered digestives thinking “I did a bloody good job of that”. Obviously dunking her biscuit in her tea with her feet up on the desk in true Anna style.
