Pushboxer- Pictures JULY 2008.

PUSHBOXER
Pictures

Pushboxer are a four piece indie/alternative band who's members originate from different corners of the UK. The band have recently finished working in the studio with producer Gavin Monaghan, well known for working with bands such as The Smiths and Editors.

So what was the result of all this time in the studio? I hear you ask. One word. Pictures.
Having not heard much from the band while they were writing and recording I was a bit apprehensive about what they would return with, but it seems that they have emerged with some pretty amazing material.
I’m listening to the song as I write this review and the lyrics, as ever, are just blowing me away. The song talks about finding sense in situations and the things around you, exposing the subtext and deeper meanings within the song that seem to become pretty clear as the song progresses. It just completely captivates you as you listen.

The song is quite sad now I come to think about it, but in a good way of course. By the end of the song the lyrics get so powerful that they portray this rather desperate image of somebody trying to hang on to what they have and just trying so hard to make sense of all the things that are going on in the world around them. Maybe something that a few people would be able to comprehend and relate to, but maybe not.

I think its hard to find a band quite like this one nowadays, their material is original and everything just works, fits and flows, especially the harmonies. I’m not usually a fan of them but they just seem to add to the song, making it that bit better.

If you’re a fan of the band Editors, I think you’ll definitely like this bands material (just imagine them sounding similar to Editors with a Scottish lead vocalist.).That’s the only band I can really think of comparing them to because of their unique take on their genre. Its nice to see that the Pushboxer lads are still working hard to produce music that everybody knows and loves! Definitely worth a listen!

The single Pictures will be released in the Autumn some time on their label fourpointninebillion. But for now you can listen to it on the bands website or their MySpace page.
